Not a whisky, but more than a beer, 1488 is a blonde ale, brewed by the Tullibardine distillery (which sits on the site of Scotland's first ever brewery).

ith the same pure spring water and malted barley used in the distillation process, it is conditioned in newly disgorged whisky casks for up to twelve weeks before it is bottled at 7% alcohol.

This majestic, premium ale has a rich malt whisky color and clean. fresh whisky finish and is best drunk chilled, chasing a dram of light single malt scotch whisky down the gullet.

Did you know that during the first few days of the production process whisky and beer are practically identical? While beer is fermented and whisky is distilled, both beverages share the same basic ingredients, namely malted grain, yeast and water.

Beer has one additional ingredient, hops. Here is what happens. The grain is immersed in water and allowed to sprout. This releases enzymes that later break down the starches in the grain and convert them into sugars. The wet grain is then dried using smoke and ground into a course flour called grist.

The grist is mixed with hot water and left to soak producing a sweet, sugary liquid called wort (at this stage beer wort is mixed with hops. The wort is then boiled, cooled, and moved into tanks where yeast is added and the wort allowed to ferment. It is at this point that the two processes diverge. While beer wort is readied for fermentation, whisky wort is readied for distillation.

And who oversees this early stage of the whisky making process in a distillery? The Brewer.
